Amman United v Aberavon Quins 12/10/2013

Jamie Davies11 Oct 2013 - 18:30

Tomorrow's programme notes...

Despite the disappointing loss down in Dunvant last weekend, a game which maybe the Amman could (and should) have won, the losing bonus point kept us in second place in the league, trailing Maesteg Quins who now lead the table by 8 points with 24 points to the Amman’s 16.

Today’s visitors are yet to pick up a point in the league this year and have lost their opening five games. However, I am sure their fortunes are likely to change soon and deserve credit for managing to fulfil all of their fixtures after almost folding two weeks before the first game of the season due to a severe lack of players. We wish them well for the future and hope that a great club like Aberavon Quins can survive for the long term. Let’s not forget that they have produced both James Hook and Richard Hibbard for Welsh rugby (and for those old enough to remember, Allan Martin in the 1970’s)!

So far this season our visitors today have played Maesteg Quins, Dunvant and Skewen away, and Trebanos and Newcastle Emlyn at home. Their heaviest defeat was at the hands of Trebanos but should the Amman need a warning not to be too complacent in the build-up to this match, the Quins run Dunvant close at Broadacre only losing in the end by 26 points to 15. Points for is 58 with a points against total of 196. The Quins have scored 7 tries and conceded 27.

Good luck to both sides today and whatever the result we look forward to visiting Aberavon in the away fixture on St David’s Day 2014.

For information, the home fixture against Aberystwyth scheduled for the 21st December has been re-arranged instead to the end of this month, Saturday 26th October. Finally, there will be a players evening in the club after the game today, open invite, for those reading this from Aberavon, Hawaiian shirts are not the usual attire for the Amman Valley on a Saturday night (unless you come from Brynamman).
