This game was originally scheduled for the 28th February but was cancelled because of a waterlogged CwmammanPark. Our win away at Carmarthen Athletic a week last Saturday would have been a nice way to end what has been a very long season, but the boys will be looking to finish on a high tonight to give our outgoing contingent a good send off, something that they very much deserve.
Crymych visit tonight on the back of six wins, their last defeat was at current league leaders Kidwelly back in February and could still play a very big part in who wins League One West. They host Newcastle Emlyn who are still pushing to win it, if Crymych can avoid a bonus point defeat on the 9th May then the title will probably be heading to Kidwelly. Crymych themselves will obviously be looking to finish their year with a few wins and will be making every effort to spoil our end of season tonight.
Mathematically we are down, seven points behind Loughor. However, we don’t know where we will be next year as there is talk of the WRU restructuring the leagues again, if we end up in Two West, our nearest local derby could well be in Tycroes. There isn’t much shape to that league though so we could end up travelling to Penlan, Aberystwyth, Haverfordwest, amongst other random places.
We don’t know where we’ll be going but one thing we’re sure of is that we’ll be there without our departing coaching team of Tony Williams and Gareth Davies. What a period we’ve had in our recent history with these two running the show. Leagues, cups, consecutive home win records, not enough space here to list them (but it’s something we’ll analyse on the website over the summer). Tony and Gareth leave with our massive thanks and well-wishes for their futures in the game and they will always be welcome back at the Amman, they will always be authentic “Amman boys” regardless of their Greens connection.
We also officially say thanks and goodbye to probably the most prolific try-scorer in our 112 year history – Dean Williams. What a player he has been for this club. Let’s hope he has as many retirements as his brother and we see him back again on the field in the future.
We also have the pleasure of announcing in tonight’s programme that our captain for next season will be ‘Super Sean’ Mangan and our new Head-Coach will be Tomas Marks who, despite still being a youngster, has a spectacular rugby background and CV behind him. We’ll review this again as well as the Youth who have been nothing but a credit this year, keep an eye on the website for updates. In other news, look in the local press for John Vince who has won the WRU ‘Unsung Hero’ award which we nominated him for. For now, thank you to our faithful supporters, to the playing and coaching staff, committee and everyone associated with the club.
Roll along Amman United into 2015/16.
