A flashback to 11th May 2003, when Aston defeated Luctonians to win the North Midlands Cup for the 1st time.

After a cup run that saw Hereford defeated 39-0, Camp Hill beaten after a 21 all draw and a 48-18 vicitory over Dixonians, Aston faced Luctonians in the final of the North Midlands Cup. Having been beaten 47-8 by Malvern the previous season, Aston were again the underdogs, but came through to win against their higher placed opposition, 24-12.

The Aston side for the Cup Final was :-

Ian Davies
Stuart Homer
Duncan Prosser
Mark Young
Phil Stanley
Richard MacNamara
Harry Vlahakis
Glen Eager

Allan Mitchell
Martin Smith
Darren Gardner
Andy Wood
Nick Langford
Terry Finn
Neil Bradley

with Chris Jenkins, Blake Bennett and Alex Zarifeh all coming off the bench.

Tries came from Darren Gardner & Glen Eager, and Nick Langford weighed in with 1 conversion and 4 penalties to give Aston a famous victory.

Allan Mitchell, Andy Wood (below), Terry Finn and Darren Gardner (above) are the only players of the squad still playing regular rugby for Aston - all in the 1st XV.

Our County Cup success saw Aston progress into the Intermediate Cup the following season, where we were drawn against Cumbrian Champions Wigton in the opening round. A weekend trip to the North West saw Aston emerge victorious 34-7, and progress through to meet Macclesfield in the next round. Despite holding them for the opening half, the National 3 side were ultimately too strong for Aston, as we bowed out 48-11.
