Trust fund set up to help disadvantaged youths/families at Avonmouth Old Boys...

The committee are pleased to announce a trust fund has been set up named 'The Rodney Kennett Trust' in honour of former Club President Rodney Kennett who sadly passed away in July 2020. Rodney was an Avonmouth man who took great pride in his association with the club. A stalwart who's affiliation to Avonmouth Old Boys RFC spanned more than six decades…

The Rodney Kennett Trust aims to support disadvantaged youths within the club and give them the opportunity to stay in the game at Avonmouth Old Boys RFC. This can include support with subscriptions, kit, support at events etc.

A general ledger account has been set up and will be tracked on a monthly basis by our finance committee. Applications for assistance to young members should be made through an age groups Coach or Team Admin and fed back to Mini & Junior Caretaker Wayne Donnelly, Club Chairman Grant Britton, Vice Chairman Lee Durbin. The application will then be considered by the committee and feedback given.
We are all aware that financial hardships can be stressful for parents, it can bring a sense of failure or shame on us all. Cases will be confidential, so we encourage those that may require help to allow their child(ren) to continue to play rugby to come forward.

As Christmas approaches we are aware that times can be tough and the financial strain can be felt by many especially with the cost of living still very high. The fund has initially been set up on the foundation of a donation of £120 from former players over the season. I'm pleased to say though that after some feedback that some parents were struggling to pay for children's Christmas meals this year at our mini/junior events, a call to arms from Vice-Chairman Lee Durbin to current, former players and Vets showed that there is still plenty of Avonmouth spirit. A whopping figure of £800 was raised and with that in mind the committee agreed that each mini/junior youth player who is registered will receive a free Christmas meal and selection box funded by the Rodney Kennett Trust. Unregistered siblings and parents will be charged £3pp for meals on the events held Friday 8th (Junior u13-u17s) and Saturday 9th (tots-u12's).

We want to thank all who have made kind donations to date and we look forward to being able to help those that need it in honour of a true Avonmouth Old Boy.
