As most supporters will know Brian has spent a significant part of his 65 years to date in the game working alongside first Phil Lines and then Kevin Brock at the Spencer Stadium.
The game itself will be between a Phil Lines/Andy Lyne XI and a Kevin Brock (Oxford United Vets) XI and having viewed the programme there will be a large number of players with Banbury United connections involved. Some of the names listed in the programme are Mark Taylor, Kieran Sullivan, Ian Bowyer, Mark Sherlock, Jess Mansfield, Jon Corbett, Cliff Cousins, Karlton Stratford, Tom Pearson, Phil Mason, Kenny Smith, David Matthews, Percy Hickman, Shaun Bradbury, Mark O’Hara, Clive Baker, Craig Pearman, Ben Milner, Tim Williams, Terry Fitton, Paul Hackett, Alan Judge, Terry Muckleberg, Les Robinson, Anton Rogan, Kevin Brock, Mike MacFarlane, Steve Jenkins, Kevin Leach, Peter Foley, Ollie Kearns, Mickey Lewis and Les Phillips.
Brian Robinson was born in 1932 in Halifax, West Yorkshire. He joined his local football club Halifax Town as an amateur in 1946 and remained with them until 1949, prior to being called up for his National Service. He was stationed at Bicester and promptly joined Bicester Town, a club he remained with for 20 years as firstly a player and then in a management role.
In 1977 he joined Chipping Norton as manager and enjoyed great success in his four seasons with them, winning the Hellenic Premier Division title and also The Oxfordshire Senior Cup.
It was the 1980s that saw the start of a 12 year partnership with Phil Lines, one of the early highlights being the winning of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup with a very young Banbury United squad and the satisfaction of many of the players going on to semi professional careers. The management team went on to win the Hellenic Premier championship with Brackley Town before winning the Southern League Southern Division Championship in 1990/91 with Buckingham Town.
In the late 1990s Brian became assistant manager to Kevin Brock at Banbury United and they went on to win the Hellenic Premier League championship in their first season together and then enjoyed a number of successful seasons in the Southern League. In 2008, Kevin Brock took charge of Ardley United and he would bring Brian in to work alongside him once again.
The organisers would be delighted to see many Banbury United supporters coming along to the game to celebrate the career of a local footballing legend.
