On behalf of everyone at the club, we would like to send best wishes to much-loved ex-player, coach and Hall of Famer Ashley Griffiths.

Ashley's is a name synonymous with Barry football; the popular defender making more than 500 appearances for the Town in a career that spanned more than 20 years.

A member of the quadruple-winning side that won an unforgettable Welsh Cup Final in 1994 against Cardiff City, Ashley would later return to manage the team in one of its darkest hours and has remained closely linked to events at Jenner Park; attending the club's centenary dinner in November 2012 (pictured left, with co-manager Gavin Price).

Unfortunately, brother and fellow Town alumni Mike made contact yesterday to inform us that this local legend is very ill, having had four operations since Saturday.

Currently at the University Hospital in Cardiff, Ashley will be moved to Llandough next week, where he is expected to stay for at least five weeks due to a serious infection in his one leg.

Any supporters wishing to send a message to Ashley are welcomed to e-mail us at barrytownunited@live.co.uk and we will attempt to pass them on from there.
