Town confirm second new signing of the close season

We have a big season ahead and I'm looking forward to getting started and joining up with the squad in July!

The club is pleased to announce a second summer signing ahead of its Welsh Premier League return in experienced and combative central midfielder Clayton Green.

Joining from Evostick Premier League side Frome Town, Clayton brings a host of experience from playing in the English system, where he represented the likes of Paulton Rovers and Evesham.

A former captain of the successful University of South Wales men’s football team, Clayton has additionally represented both Welsh Universities and British Universities in international fixtures.

Clayton is the son of former Barry player Phil Green, who scored 70 goals for the club between 1979 and 1986 including a number of hat-tricks and was a key part of the club’s 1984-85 FA Cup run, netting in the marathon Fourth Qualifying Round win over Merthyr at Jenner Park.

Barry manager Gavin Chesterfield commented: "Clayton is a player who I know well from my role at USW and I'm delighted to confirm his signing. Having worked with him, I know his qualities and feel that he will bring added quality and experience to our squad, both on and off the field of play. Through our discussions, I know he's excited by the challenge of the WPL and I feel that we are very good fit for one another."

Clayton added: "I'm really pleased to be joining Barry Town ahead of our first season in the Welsh Premier League. It's a big club with quality players throughout the squad, and was an easy decision for me following discussions with Gavin. We have a big season ahead and I'm looking forward to getting started and joining up with the squad in July!"
