Benji Pickin1 Sep 2013 - 20:57

Better late than never, the report on the Cricket the other week.

Wednesday 21st August saw the inaugural Bradford Multi-sport challenge held at the Bradford and Bingley Cricket ground, with an evening of power hour cricket between the Bradford Bulls and Bradford & Bingley Rugby Club first teams.

As the hour closed and with the Bees standing at 105 runs, the Bulls, Robbie Paul fluked a shot and ended 106 runs with 3 balls remaining and no wickets left.

Crowds were drawn by some great Bulls first team players at the event Elliot Kear, Jarrod Sammut, James Donaldson, Sam Wood, Matty Blythe and Danny Addy along with Bees players who have played locally for many seasons Phil Greaves, Brett Mitchell, Adam Wellington to name but a few.

The event was organised by rugby international brothers Henry Paul, Director of rugby for the Bees team at Wagon lane ground in Bingley and Robbie Paul who works in the commercial department for the Bradford Bulls after retiring as a player for the side in 2011. Robbie, the younger of the two brothers played for New Zealand national team 27 times followed by seasons with Leigh Centurions, Salford City Reds and latterly at the Huddersfield Giants. Henry Paul represented New Zealand too in rugby league and England in rugby union.

Said Henry Paul of the event “We tried to make it a family event including rugby coaching for children prior to the game and a barbecue to follow the hour of cricket. We’re aiming to make this an annual event and it would be great next year to encourage a team to enter from Bradford City FC. For now the trophy remains with the Bulls, but we’ll be back next year.”
