Brighouse Town's new manager Vill Powell, despite a five day sojourn to Croatia for a friend's stag do, hasn't let the grass grow under his feet and has kept in touch with his chairman, Charles Tolley, while on his break.
"He has been sorting the pre-season fixtures and there is the distinct possibility of Middlesbrough bringing an U-23 side to the Dual Seal Stadium, not to mention his former club Harrogate Town," revealed Tolley.
"I understand he will be tying up all the loose ends to see his good friend Billy Heath bring FC Halifax Town to our Hove Edge ground on Saturday July 8, while on the following Friday, July 14 we will be entertaining NCEL Premier Division side Worksop Town."
The Daniel Wilkinson Memorial game for the Hull-born central defender with Shaw Lane who passed way at Brighouse Town's ground last September in a League Cup preliminary round game, is set for Tuesday, July 18. On Saturday, July 22, Town are away at Bridlington Town, another NCEL Premier Division side who are managed by former professional player and later boxer Curtis Woodhouse, while then on the Monday, July 24, they are away to promoted NCEL Division One club Penistone Church, who beat Grimsby Borough in the play-off final, and then in the middle of last month beat Bridlington Town in the NCEL League Cup final at Bramall Lane.
Wednesday, July 26 and Town take a side to Eccleshill United before possibly looking at the Middlesbrough fixture on the Saturday, July 29 which was a fixture date for Guiseley, but the Adam Lockwood managed club also have a date with Darlington that day and it was felt that they would not be putting out a strong side and that would not appeal to the Town faithful.
The League announced on Tuesday that signed players could be forwarded for registration from July 1, so that date will be going down in Vill Powell's diary as he and assistant Nathaniel Brown look to add to the existing clutch of players keen to move forward with Town from August 12 when the season kicks off.
On Saturday at 10am up at the ground, Development coaches Simon Ward and Barry Thomas will be holding their final trials day for the U-21s but will also run the rule over more senior players if they turn up.
Former Town player Ryan Hall, who is currently with the V9 Jamie Vardy Academy, has, Echo Sport understands, left Curzon Ashton and joined recently promoted Spennymoor Town who will be playing his former club in the Vanarama National League North next season. The north east club were keen on him when they came across him during Town's initial seasons in the Evo-Stik NPL Division One.
Still in the north east and Town will be coming up against a former FC Halifax Town striker in Jon Shaw who has now made the transition to central defender at South Shields following his move from Gateshead. He had previously played for Burton Albion, Halifax and Luton Town since 2004 and banged in a lot of goals.
