St Johns Cliviger emerge as Champions

A great afternoon of Tag Rugby was held at Burnley RUFC recently with 21 Schools comprising of 23 teams from across the borough and over 200 children taking part. This fantastic competition was organised by Helen Tyson and Burnley Schools Sports Partnership (SSP) helpers along with Burnley RUFC refs, Steve Harrison, Mick Heys, James Henderson, Lewis Allen and John McNabb . This was a tremendous afternoon! Well done all schools and pupils who took part. St Johns C of E Cliviger coming out eventual winners. They will now represent Burnley in this years SPAR Lancashire School Games County Finals at Blackpools Stanley Park on July the 1st.

St Johns emerged victorious after beating reigning Champions St Josephs Park Hill 5-3 in a thrilling final.Coach John Sansom was delighted to see his side lift the trophy for the third time in four years.The competition format saw the 21 teams split into six groups.Group winners progressed to the Cup playoffs.While runners up battled it out in the plate competition.The event was constructed in such a way that each school had something to play for with teams finishing lowly down the standings contesting the Vase and Bowl Events.St Johns Cliviger, St Josephs, St Leonard`s , Wellfield, St Mary Magdalene`s and Padiham Primary School all contested the main cup after winning their respective groups.They were then split into two smaller play off groups.With the winner of these two groups battling for the cup.St Leonards were third , Wellfield fourth.St Mary Magdalenes and Padiham Primary sharing fifth place.In the plate St Johns Padiham beat Worthsthorne in the plate final.Christ the King were third, Stoneyholme fourth St Johns Cliviger “B” “ fifth and St Peters sixth.St Johns Burnley beat St Mary Madalenes “B” in the Vae Final with Rosewood third.St Marys 4th, Wellfield “B” fifth and St Stephens sixth.In the bowl St Augustines were 1st Lowerhouse 2nd, Cherryfold third and Heasandford fourth.

Any children who enjoyed it so much they want to continue , then come along to the same location any Sunday morning to join the clubs sides.

Also any schools that have not had any tag rugby from myself but would like some sessions please get in touch or if had some and want myself in again, feel free to contact me and we could possibly work with a different age group? I will happily work with all schools if available through to your summer holidays .
