Broncos take part in exciting new initiative to develop rugby league, provide experience to players, and raise money for charity all at the same time.

The recent renaissance of town team rugby has seen Warrington, Widnes and Rochdale turn out sides to represent their areas and benefit charities.

The Broncos are part of the Manchester and District Rugby League and our players will soon get the chance to join forces with Eccles and Salford Juniors, Langworthy Reds, Folly Lane, Irlam Hornets, Cadishead Rhinos and Mancunians RL to form our own representative side for the first time in 25 years. Simon Palin, Joe Galpin, Arthur Holgate and Carl Kelly have attended training sessions over recent weeks in the run up to fixtures.

John Connor from Irlam Hornets said:

“The first game game on Thursday 5th May will see the Town Team take on the Rochdale Town Team in a 7.30pm kick off at Eccles Rugby League Ground. The match is sponsored by Salford City Reds Foundation with all proceeds going to the Christies Charity.

“The following week (Thursday 12th May) the team will be taking on the Fire and Police Team at Cadishead Recreation Centre, Lord Street, Cadishead at 7.30pm. That match is sponsored by Higher Irlam Social Club and all proceeds will be going towards the Help for Heroes Charity. I would ask all rugby fans from across the area to support their Town Team in these matches and make them nights to remember!”

The aim of the town team is to give local open age players the opportunity to represent the area in which they play and live in and hopefully help retain more players in local clubs by providing those players an opportunity to play at a higher level.

Service Area Coordinator, Phil Fitton said:

"It’s great to see a return of open age Representative Rugby and there are some great young players coming through. Get down to Eccles or Cadishead to see some great Rugby and support our local lads"

All spectators will be asked to give a small donation on entry towards raising funds for Help for Heroes and The Christie.

The Broncos are proud to see our players take the opportunity to play in games like these and it would be good to see some Bronco faces supporting the games.
