Bury Town Disability Football

Bury Town Disability Football

Bury Town Wanderers was formed in November 2009 by Hugo Corrie; the team was set up to play under Bury Town FC’s umbrella and started out with Ipswich Town Community Trust providing coaching and funding. In December 2009 the team entered into the Ipswich Town Community Trust Pan Disability League, in their first season Bury Town finished top of the pile and were awarded with their first piece of silverware. Bury Town Wanderers have travelled a few times outside of Suffolk, travelling to Kent to play Maidstone and have made the trip to European Champions Chelsea’s training ground where they came away with an impressive victory.
In April 2011, Bury Town fielded an all-Girls team against an Ipswich Junior team, to date this is the only fixture played by the Girls team. In the 2011-12, Bury Town fielded 5 teams in various fixtures over East Anglia; First Team, Red Team, Blue Team, Royals Team and The Colts (Juniors).
The Wanderers Colts (Juniors) set up is now growing with strong links being forged with Schools in West Suffolk. 2013 was a good year for Disability Football in the South East with the formation of the Ryman Inclusion Cup, teams from Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Kent, Hertfordshire & London, the blues beat both Hitchin Town and St. Albans City en route to the cup final. The final was held at the Gallagher Stadium, Maidstone, the blues met a very strong Maidstone Deaf side and were beaten 7-1 but a great day out was had by all and a very good achievement for Suffolk's only representative.
