Cinderford Town FC 1 V Weston Super Mare FC 2
By Paul Webb
Cinderford’s first pre season game saw them beaten by higher ranked Weston but they emerged with a number of plus points to take from the encounter.
Town got off to a bright start with some good link up play between the forwards and midfield. On seven minutes Bird’s defence splitting pass was seized on by the alert Easter who finished with aplomb. Weston should have equalised on 27 minutes but ex Town striker Ingram wastefully blazed his effort over the bar. Shortly afterwards Ingram made amends with a neat finish following a smart build up. Hunt’s inviting cross narrowly eluded Prangley as Town went on the attack, while Mc Claggan for the visitors went close to giving them the lead on the stroke of half time.

Town were caught cold at the start of the second period Preen skilfully beating his man and firing past Harris. The usual flood of friendly substitutions tended to break up play and cohesive attacks though Andy Lewis was unlucky to see his strike deflected wide. Prangley, O’Sullivan and Gabriel all had chances to level for Town but failed to convert them as Weston defended doggedly. Indeed Mc Claggan could have increased the visitors lead but from a free kick he shot straight at Harris. Cinderford’s next pre season friendly is against Swansea City at the Causeway this coming Saturday kick off at 13.00pm.
