Nellins Brace Seals It for Service

Nellins Brace Seals It for Service

Roy Lawton5 Apr 2015 - 07:44

Service 22 v 15 Letterkenny

A four try haul including 2 from Stevie Nellins at either end of this compelling game, was enough to bag the points at a rapturous Stormont on Saturday. In front of the biggest crowd of any Qualifying 4 game this season, Service battled right to the end to ensure their last Home game in the league, would be one to savour over the summer months.

Service dominated in the opening quarter with Nellins scoring the opener to get the scoreboard ticking over. Letterkenny responded with a converted try and penalty and went into the break leading by 10 points to 5.

Just after the restart, Bryn Sturgeon crashed over for Service to level the scores at 10 apiece, but it was the visitors who retook the lead with a second try to go in front once more by 15 points to 10.

Service responded with a third try from Emmett McKimm to level the scores yet again before Nellins got his second right at the end and deep into stoppage time. Pete Hoskins bisected the uprights with a sweet strike of the boot for the conversion and Service had secured another 2 precious league points.

Despite loosing their composure midway through the game, Service never gave up and got their reward with a fine victory, come the final whistle.

Service chased every 'lost' cause down the flanks and in midfield and their 'never say die' commitment shone through, right to the end. Great days play lads, well done.

Thanks to Letterkenny for travelling, the Branch official with the whistle, and to the excellent support along the touchlines (60+), it was all very much appreciated, thank you.
