Sharon Taylor29 Nov 2018 - 12:44

Competition: Midland Football League Premier Division

Fixture: Coventry Sphinx v Highgate Utd
Date: Saturday 1st December, 2018
Venue: Sphinx Drive, off Siddeley Avenue, Stoke, Coventry, CV3 1WA
Kick-off: 3pm
PREVIEW: We have familiar opponents on Saturday when Solihull based Highgate Utd come to Coventry. Sphinx go into the match with a decent run of form behind them but Highgate often provide difficult opposition so a tough match awaits. Sphinx sit in 7th place ahead of the match with Highgate currently in mid table.
COVENTRY SPHINX: Sphinx come into the game on the back of an impressive away win at Wolverhampton Sporting last time out. Despite going a goal behind in the early stages, Sphinx recovered superbly to register a 5-1 win. Sporting are at the bottom end of the table but they proved what they are capable of with a 4-0 win against 3rd place Walsall Wood in their following match.
THE OPPOSITION: Highgate’s recent form is difficult to assess with some surprise defeats mixed up with some impressive wins. Their 8 away games in the league have produced two wins but they have also only been defeated just twice away from home. Four draws have demonstrated they are difficult to beat on the road. They have won at Romulus and also had an impressive win at Sporting Khalsa in the early stages of the season. They have played their last four league games at home so this is their first away trip in the league since November 10th. They have suffered defeat in their last two league fixtures but prior to that they had significant wins at home against Worcester City (3-2) and Ilkeston Town (3-1).
PREVIOUS MEETINGS: The sides last met on the opening day of the season and they opened the campaign with a point each after a draw at The Coppice. Last season Highgate Utd achieved the double over Coventry Sphinx on their way to a third place finish. Louis Guest got the goal in a 3-1 defeat at Highgate and Ryan Harkin was the scorer of the Sphinx goal in a 2-1 loss at Sphinx Drive.
