Five homegrown colts play for the mens team

An away game on a foggy Oxford pitch on a Saturday afternoon would normally go unnoticed, apart from this game had something significant about it that had taken 12 years to achieve.

Back in 2010 the rugby club decided that to future-proof the club and the playing base, it would set up from scratch a minis section with U6 and U7 teams. Five players that have come through this system played for the mens team against Oxford. Luke, Jamie, Ioan, Ollie and Harry were selected in the matchday squad and gave a great contribution to the game, with Jamie scoring a try and getting the Didcot player of the match award.

Rob Carter, Minis and Junior Chair said "I've watched these players grow up through the age grade system of the club and we shouldn't underestimate how important this game was to the history of Didcot Rugby club. We started with 12 players, and now Didcot has a thriving community of over 200 minis and juniors players, offering rugby for boys and girls from ages 4 to 18."

The rugby club would like to thank all our volunteers (past and present) that work tirelessly to bring rugby to the Didcot community and allow amazing occasions such as this to happen.

Didcot always welcome new players of all abilities, please contact join@didcotrufc.com for more information.
