The two top teams in Derbyshire played their league match last night at Derby. Dronfield score within ten minute but Derby came back strongly to take a half time lead of 15-8. They deserved the lead and at this point Dronfield were hanging in a little. Early in the second half Derby scored again, 20-8 and thoughts turned to ' can we get a bonus point'.
This Dronfield team, however, don't know when they are beaten. More and more they took the game to Derby and after sustained pressure obtained the try that would give us the bonus point, 20-15. With grit and determination we continued to push Derby back. When they conceded a penalty we made it 20-18 and a little excitement appeared amongst the spectators as we could see a chance of a win. Further pressure on the Derby line resulted in another penalty from some distance. We held our breath and willed the ball over to make it 20-21 and we were dreaming. It was the longest five minutes we have endured but despite strong pressure the final whistle went and we had won.
For the moment the top team in Derbyshire - DRONFIELD RUGBY CLUB.
