Minis at Hawick Tournament

Last Sunday saw the Duns minis roll down the A7 to Hawick's second annual mini rugby tournament where they took part in a series of round robins against most of the local teams at a sunny Mansfield.

The P3 Baby Bears running light with a 5 a side put up a strong showing with Archie Brewis notching up a splendid handful ( including a stunning last minute try against eventual victors Kelso) brother Charlie putting one past the men in black and white, Daniel Ross getting his debut score of the season against the mighty Hawick hosts and Scott Moffat beginning to show his potential in popping one in against Jedburgh. The full team are pictured showing their well deserved and much appreciated medal haul.

The P4s were under strength as call ups from south of the border disrupted the coaches' planning (Andy Robinson, we feel your pain) so as a result Findlay Hamilton played as a one man Duns Team with support from our friends in green whilst Jen Miller and Andrew Duff took up their place in an invitational Hawick Barbarians equipe ( you could tell them by their socks in the traditional way ! ) They all gave a good account of themselves and kept the Dingers' heads high as Jen and Andrew took four tries each.

The Famous Fives began to live up to their name in their best tournament showing to date in putting Kelso to the sword, holding their Hawick hosts to a 10 try draw, and putting 3 and 5 respectively past Jed and eventual champions Selkirk, every one of the 6 man team crossed the whitewash at some time or another with Pavel Miller and Fergus Murray taking a quartet each.

As is often the case the more senior team found the defensive capabilities of their opponents more developed and a full Super Sevens were able to add the extra brace from new recruits William Derries and Kyle Ramsbottom taking the combined total to 30 tries. Not bad for a morning's work.

Many thanks are due to all at Hawick for their efforts in enabling the prime of young borders rugby to show off their skills. This weekend the boys and girls meet up at 51 Newtown Street on Sunday at 10.30 for their regular training session as they begin preparations for the short hop to Berwick on the 14th November. There is still room for more recruits (particularly at Primary 6 level ) so come along and join in the fun.
