DUNVANT DIG IN AGAINST MUMBLES FIGHT BACK

DUNVANT DIG IN AGAINST MUMBLES FIGHT BACK

Roger Knight20 Oct 2014 - 16:15

From a 16-0 lead after 16 mins, Dunvant dug deep against a determined Mumbles side who fought back hard to 19-9 half time and a final score of 19-12

Scores:
Dunvant: 19

Try: 13 Sam Crowley, Conversion: 11 Adam Williams-Parry, Penalties: 11 Adam Williams-Parry (4)
Mumbles: 12
Penalties: 12 Greg Davies (4)

This is what local derbies are all about, tough, uncompromising ,competitive from start to finish and a great crowd although Mumbles probably had the edge with Dunvant Male Choir away in London singing in the Royal Albert Hall with the 1000 Male Voice Choir. Dunvant got the first score with a penalty almost immediately from kick off which left wing Adam Williams-Parry kicked for 3-0. Two minutes later, Mumbles infringed again on their 22 and Adam stroked over a 2nd penalty for 6-0. After 6 minutes something erupted which resulted in Mumbles 4 and Dunvant’s 5 both being yellow carded and leaving Dunvant’s Hayden Baldwin with a broken hand and out for several weeks. Then inside centre Sam Crowley made a great break but Mumbles infringed again resulting in a yellow card for Mumbles No 8 Gareth Beer on his return to Broadacre, and Adam again kicked the resulting penalty for 9-0. On the quarter hour, Sam Crowley made another great break to run through and score a try , Adam converting, 16 minutes played, 16 points scored without reply. Mumbles finally got a chance to score with Dunvant not releasing on their 22, and Mumbles inside centre Greg Davies, on his return to Broadacre slotted the penalty for 16-3. With Mumbles back to full strength they were now forcing Dunvant onto the defensive and Greg slotted another penalty on 28 minutes for 16-6. With 5 minutes to half time, Mumbles were awarded a penalty for a high tackle, took a quick tap, Dunvant not retreating the 10 metres gaining a talking to from the ref, and the resultant penalty was then kicked by Greg for 16-9. Dunvant had the final say of the half with another penalty on Mumbles 22 which Adam kicked for 19-9.
The second half saw a huge number of decisions against Dunvant, I didn’t count but I’m told it was 13-1 against us. 46 minutes played and Dunvant were again pinged for not releasing for Greg Davies to narrow the score to 19-12. Mumbles then put on an impressive rolling maul, gaining about 25 metres and Dunvant’s hooker Ceri Davies was carded for pulling it down. Another penalty for Mumbles was kicked to touch, another rolling maul, more penalties and more talking to by the ref, but Dunvant’s defence held out to the end denying Mumbles another score and a much needed 2nd victory in the league to maintain our 8th place. Unfortunately we also lost prop Robbie Morris to an ACL injury and he will be out for some time., so the injury list gets longer. Flanker Adam Gregory was named as the Dunvant rugby Club Singers Man of the Match.
Next up for Dunvant is more of the same, we are again home to Mumbles next Saturday 25th for the 2nd round of the Swalec Plate.
