This Month's 'Player in Focus' - Chris Chilvers

Stephen Snell8 Jan 2013 - 20:42

Each month we highlight a 'Player in Focus', this Month it is Chris Chilvers, 1st XV Second Row.

Chris is an active member of the Club and not only plays for our 1st XV but is also one of our Committee Senior Player Representatives. You may have seen him helping the MINI's section during the U7/U8 Tag Festival in October last year or indeed helping Coaching in the U12's more recently. Read what he has to say about himself and indeed Rugby;

I have been playing rugby since I was 9 years old. Played only school rugby till I was 17 then started playing men's for Cheltenham RFC before starting UNI at 18 and playing for the University of Winchester's 1st XV and Winchester City RFC 1st XV. I represented Suffolk at U15 level and Gloucestershire at U16 and U17 level, as well as Hampshire at U21 level.

My last club was Old Pats based in Cheltenham where I played from Sept' 07 till March' 10. I started playing for Eastbourne from January 2011.
I ended up in Eastbourne due to my relationship with my now wife who lived in Willingdon and teaches at Ratton School.

My favourite player is Will Greenwood, I was lucky enough to be mentored by Simon Leigh who coached me at U17 level and was a former England U21 who shared the centres with Phil DeGranville.

I enjoy playing for Eastbourne because I like the team and club ethos. Right from when I started I was made to feel very welcome and I still feel we all individually play an integral part in the running and representation of the club.

I have recently been invited to be a player representative which is a role I take very seriously as it is vital that there is frequent and open communication between the committee and the team. I have also started to coach the U12's which I am hoping will stand me in good stead to begin any coaching qualifications I may be interested in the future.
