Woodward, who turns 34 today (Many Happy Returns Matty !), becomes the second ex-Runcorn player to sign for Flint in the pre-season, following hot on the heels of Carl Rodgers. He started his career in the West Cheshire League with Upton A.A. before joining Welsh Premier League side Airbus UK Broughton midway through the 2007/08 season. He impressed sufficiently at the Airfield to be given a one year contract with Chester.
He then joined Rhyl in 2012, helping them to promotion back to the Welsh Premier, before moving to Bangor and then to Runcorn at the start of last season.
Flint coach Aden Shannon said that the club has been keeping tabs on Matty for quite a while, and are delighted to have finally landed their man. He described Woodward as "one of the best defenders I have seen. He is big and strong and loves a tackle." He added that with the latest acquisition, "Our defence is really shaping up to be one of the strongest in the league, which is exactly what we need, as successful teams tend to be built upon defensive solidity."
