Blues FA Cup Run 30th Anniversary

Steve Pennock4 Jan 2016 - 09:30

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Blues reaching the FA Cup 3rd Round Proper for the first (and so far only) time in their history.

The Blues hosted Rotherham United at Westfield Lane but went out of the competition 3-1 to the Canon League Third Division side with Colin Bishop scoring the Blues' consolation goal in the 81st minute in front of a crowd of 5904.

After seeing off Northwich Victoria 2-1 in the 4th Qualifying Round at Westfield Lane with goals from Wayne Noteman and Gary Mallender the Blues needed a 1st Round replay to overcome Halesowen Town 3-1 after a 1-1 draw at Westfield Lane. Colin Bishop, Paul Wilson and Russ Wilcox scored in the replay with Bishop being the Blues' scorer in the first game.

The Blues then traveled to Canon League Fourth Division high-fliers Hartlepool United in the Second Round with Paul Wilson netting the winner in a 1-0 win to set up the Third Round tie against Rotherham United.

The tie against Rotherham United had an early kick off at 2pm on Saturday 4th January and admission set was at £2.50 for Adults and £1.50 for Concessions.

The Football League side took the lead through Mick Gooding on 13 minutes and extended it through Daryl Pugh 18 minutes later. Frickley's Will Foley saw his 64th minute penalty saved before the Millers sealed the game through Tommy Tynan in the 75th minute. Colin Bishop converted a cross from substitute Gary in the 81st minute for the Blues' consolation goal.
