Frickley Academy and Frickley Athletic are delighted to announce the launch of a partnership programme with League 1 Club Barnsley FC.

The programme will see a variety of mutual benefits which will aid both clubs in their development of young players and provide opportunities for players at both clubs from under 9 to under 21 level.

Academy Manager Allan Howcroft and Frickley Athletic Chairman Gareth Dando met with Barnsley CEO Ben Mansford, Academy Manager Ronnie Branson, Academy Head of Coaching Mark Burton and Head of Recruitment Brian Young to agree the partnership which will see both clubs working together to develop and improve coaching, facilities and opportunities for players, coaches and parents.

Allan Howcroft said “This is the future vision we set out when we formed the Frickley Academy, namely to raise standards of junior football. We are a semi-professional club not your usual village club. I am overwhelmed that our hard work has been recognised by such a prestigious professional club in Barnsley FC. The potential of the partnership is enormous and I am looking forward to leading on the partnership and continuing with driving the Frickley Academy from strength to strength”

Ronnie Branson added “In recent times, the Academy has produced the likes of Jacob Butterfield and John Stones. This season has seen 7 Academy graduates make their first team debuts. However, the recruitment of the best young talent in the local area is paramount to the continued success of the Academy and the Club’s ultimate business, therefore, working in partnership with a club like Frickley, will assist the Club with such recruitment.”

Gareth Dando commented, “This is a great opportunity for both clubs to benefit from a close working relationship which will provide a pathway for players and coaches alike to achieve their maximum potential in football.. It’s another example of the great strides that the Frickley Academy has made under Allan’s leadership.”
