HOPE OF A MIRACLE ESCAPE
After the Guernsey Raiders high scoring 47-38 win against Wild Geese last week, which was our second win on the bounce, the side has renewed hope of a miracle escape from relegation in the National Two South league.
However, that is very much reliant on another good win against Dings Crusaders today at Footes Lane, at 2pm. Dings ended a four-match losing run with a 22-17 win over their local rivals Old Redcliffians last week and are renowned for having a very good backline.
‘They love to push the ball out wide and they have two big threats in their centres – one of the best 13s in the league and their 12 has Premiership experience with Exeter,' said Raiders head coach Jordan Reynolds.
In major Raiders team news, Luke Sayer returns at full back and another old boy, Jim Elliott, makes one of those now intermittent appearances on the wing to help plug the gap and having impressed in the recent Investec Inter-Insular win.
Jason Batiste, who we haven’t seen for a while due to work commitments, is named in the centres to pair up with Elia Morisio. Malcolm Barnes is due for another seat on the replacement bench after his surprise and dramatic intervention last weekend.
But while there are more changes among the backs, Reynolds is able to name his now first-choice pack in which George Shannon continues to go from strength to strength.
But, of course, victory is all important again.
The simple maths is that Jordan Reynolds’ men must match or better the result of Old Redcliffians when they host Dings Crusaders otherwise their one-year stay at this level will be over.
The Old Reds play Taunton Titans, while as for the final side in the relegation fight - Birmingham and Solihull - their fate cannot be sealed this weekend. With just one defeat from their last four games means they are now just six points from safety.
The game kicks off at 2pm tomorrow. Free entry for members and under 16. £9 entry for non-members. The RBSI Guernsey Rugby U13 will host the Hove U13 in a curtain raiser match at 12 noon.
