MARTIN BACK AFTER SIX MONTHS OUT
BACK in December Raiders produced a wonderfully gutsy 80min. performance and late flourish that produced two deserved tries and a massive cheer from another packed Garenne Stand.
But a welcome bonus point was all that Jordan Reynolds’ side took that day against a good Henley side that went away 17-10 winners.
Four months on Henley remain a top side with real hope of finishing in the playoffs, so another welcome bonus point may be a triumph in itself for Raiders when they travel to London for the return on Saturday.
This represents the Raiders’ last away game of the season, unless of course you count the jump over to Jersey for the Siam defence.
Henley defended brilliantly all afternoon when they first met and it will be another makeshift backline that will try and break them down this weekend.
From last week’s thrilling success over Ding’s both Luke Sayer and Jason Batiste are unavailable. Vikings duo Matt Lomas and Cam Le Prevost are due to come into the backline along with Dale Martin, who finally returns after more than six months out plagued by an Achilles problem.
‘He will be on the wing,’ Reynolds said ahead of final preparations for the game.
Thankfully, the pack is still firing on all cylinders and Reynolds hopes that his lads can again pull a surprise out of the hat.
‘We went to London Irish with a similar looking squad and managed to come away with an important victory.
‘This will be a tougher test, but we do need points from all our last three games.
Raiders need to leapfrog two sides to beat relegation and Reynolds says it is an exciting Spring - again!
Last year it was promotion we were chasing, this time an escape route,
With Taunton Titans and Old Albanians still to come at home, hope springs eternal and another bonus point would seem a welcome bonus from this final trip.
