It's the 'Sandy Lane Derby' on Saturday. These affairs are always feisty between the two clubs, and there's usually a lot of goals scored. Since Worksop have come into the NCEL the teams have played each other nine times in the league and 29 goals have been scored between the two sides.
Overall, Handsworth have had the better over Worksop winning seven matches, Worksop winning two. In fact, the last time Worksop beat Parramore was in the 2016/17 season when Adam Scott got the goal for Worksop in a 0-1 win. The other win for The Tigers came way back in the 2014/15 season when Conor Higginson and Jon Wafula got on the scoresheet in a 2-0 win.
Worksop have added to their ranks before the game. Ex Tadcaster and Garforth striker Calum Ward signed today. Ward scored a total of 75 goals in three seasons for The Brewers (Tadcaster) He will definitely be a player that Handsworth have to look out for if they want to come away from the derby with another win.
Handsworth come into this game on the back of two losses. Last Saturday we lost to Maltby Main 1-2 when ex Tiger and Parras player Jordan Turner scored a 90th minute winner. The week before Handsworth lost out to league leaders Yorkshire Amateur through an 82nd minute penalty from top goalscorer Ashley Flynn. As we all know though in derbies, form goes out of the window come 3pm.
Worksop have not lost in their previous two games, last week drawing 0-0 to 11th placed Barton Town after beating 16th placed Liversedge 2-1. If it is Worksop who prevails tomorrow they could move up into 6th place depending on other results. While Handsworth could move up into 7th place so a win would be much welcomed for The Tigers or The Ambers.
I'm sure it will be a fantastic game and occasion as it always is between the two sides, come down to Sandy Lane, have a drink and watch a bit of football! The postcode for the game is S80 1UJ We hope to see you there! #UTA
