Lions 17-11 Saracens Amateurs 2nds

On a bitterly cold day the Saracnes visited Grove Field in high spirits. After a win earlier in the season, the men in black were overheard to be confident in the lead up to the game. These thoughts would be quickly dispelled by a steely Lions outfit.
Saracens drew first blood with a try in the corner, before the deficit was slashed to 5-3.
In a slightly reshuffled team, Silman was moved from 12 to 10. It’s hard to characterise Silman’s performance into any conventional categories but I think that it is most aptly described as a cross between Ronan O’Gara and Joe Worsley. While Silman kicked the corners masterfully, with ball in hand he adopted the role of a more “bosh 10”. This met with some effectiveness, in the early exchanges as it created space out wide when the ball was recycled.
It was following one of these charges that Harrow broke the line before being dragged down just short of the line. The ball was recycled and Gibson wriggled past a defender before diving for the line. Spectators were heard to remark that Gibson’s feet were still touching the 5m line as the ball crossed the whitewash, but regardless, the score was taken to 10-5.
Saracens opted to take 3 points on the stroke of half time to bring the score to 10-8.
Harrow roared out of the blocks in the second half and a quite sublime try took the scores to 17-8. The ball was moved from one touchline to the other before some slick “catch and pass” handling saw Janacek cross in the corner.
The remainder of the second half was plagued by small infractions and knock ons, though that is not to say there were no highlights. With O’Gara impressions in mind, Davies found himself knocked into another post code by a suspiciously rotund Saracens 12.
Saracens did kick a further penalty with ten minutes remaining, but Harrow held on to make it three wins on the trot for Captain Peacock’s men.
