Hayling United relegated

Hayling United relegated

Max Jones4 Jun 2013 - 22:31

The Wessex League decided to relegate the Humbugs to the Wessex First Division at their AGM tonight.

Despite finishing 22 points clear of the drop, United join New Milton Town in being relegated to Division 1 due to "ground grading issues".

Hayling were warned about the College Ground not meeting league regulations back in March, and successfully built a concrete walkway around all four corners of the pitch and installed a removable boundary fence before the March 31 deadline, but it appears the league have seen something else wrong with the club's facilities.

Romsey Town, despite finishing 16 points into the drop zone, will remain in the Wessex Premier and will be joined by newly promoted sides Brockenhurst and Whitchurch United, as well as Sholing and Winchester City, who chose to drop out of the Southern League for financial reasons, to form a 22-team league.

Alton Town, who finished eighteenth last season, two places behind Hayling, have been moved to the Combined Counties League.

The "issues" with the College Ground have not been confirmed yet.
