Kidlington 3 Marlow 0
This was an exceptional performance by Julian McCalmon's lads showcased just what our manager is trying to achieve and just as importantly how far we've come under his guidance already.
It was made all the more special because you have to consider that this feat was accomplished without at least 10 first team players for various reasons. We were without defenders Chris Weedon, Ben Weedon, Ben Willoughby, Charlie Wise & skipper Tom Franklin, midfielders Mark Janes, Michael Alexis & Eric Odhiambo, plus strikers Christian Thomas & Ryan Brooks. Quite and impressive list of absentees I think you'll all agree!
So enough about who wasn't there lets concentrate on who was and how well they played.
With Marlow having a good season and sitting 3rd in the table we always though this would be a difficult game and as the nights proceedings got under-way it was indeed the visitors who were making the early running.
Marcus Mealing was proving a handful up front for them and he came mighty close to scoring in the 11th minute. A ball was looped into the Kidlington box where Mealing got a toe end onto it, his attempt flashed across goal, but then hit the far post before being cleared.
That was an early warning of the fire power Marlow possess and although the game was evening out a bit now 'The Greens' were thankful for keeper Sam Warrell's agility when he saved adiabatically from that man Mealing again in the 17th minute.
After this Kidlington were getting more and more onto their own front foot and a good interchange of passes between Lewis Coyle and Elliott Osbourne-Ricketts allowed the former time and space to rifle a shot which flashed only just wide of the Marlow upright.
'The Greens' were starting to make things happen and after a string of concerted attacks a cross from débutante Watheq Al-Hakam was misjudged by keeper Simon Grant. The ball fell invitingly for Jack Dunmall (pictured) and he seized on the opportunity to fire Kidlington into the lead, 1 - 0 on 27 minutes.
The game had certainly changed for the better now and you couldn't have told that there were 15 places in the league between the sides in the league table.
In first half added time Coyle had a great opportunity to increase the lead from a free kick about 25 yards out. However from the kick Coyle leathered the ball over the clubhouse roof!
Half time 1 - 0 and all to play for.
Right from kick-off in this second half Kidlington were playing with a new found confidence and with stand in Skipper Lewis Gabbidion once again looking imperious in midfield the hosts were dominating possession.
This dominance paid dividends when Elliott Osbourne-Ricketts put 'The Greens' further ahead in the 51st minute. Some fine work allowed Dunmall to provide Osbourne-Ricketts the perfect importunity in front of goal and he didn't disappoint lashing the ball home for 2 - 0.
Just the start to the second half that McCalmon and his team would have been hoping for and after this Kidlington were going from strength to strength with Marlow's lads looking dejected.
In the 69th minute some more excellent work this time from Al-Hakram presented a chance for Dunmall, the striker steadied but then from a decent position shot over the bar.
'The Greens' were playing some excellent football and when Dunmall turned provider in the 72nd minute Anaclet Odhiambo was on hand to flick the ball home past Grant for 3 - 0.
Marlow made all 3 of their permitted substitutions to try and add some imputes to their play but even this couldn't turn the Green tide, though Curtis Chappie looked lively down the left flank.
Nearing the end of proceedings Kidlington made their 3 substitution bringing on the fresh legs of youth team trio Callum Harvey, Josh Tooke & Jack Gaul.
We comfortably played through about 4 minutes of added time with no scares at all to Warrell's goal and Kidlington ran out 3 - 0 winners.
It would have been a brave man that would have predicted just how this game was to turn out before kick-off, but I can say with complete honesty that Kidlington were well worth their win and the scoreline certainly doesn't flatter them.
Henry Owen in the heart of 'The Greens' defence was immense and certainly now back to his best form and it has to be said he was ably supported in defence by Mark Flanagan and full backs Jack Quainton and Tommy Castle.
Wathq Al-Hakam impressed us all on his début and Jack Dunmall tormented the Marlow back line all evening, all round a really exceptional performance.
