Stalemate at Fairfax Park

The Larks' league encounter with Bridgwater Town was once again a 1-1 draw, albeit a more feisty one than the drab game at Plain Ham back in October.

The visitors were the better side in the first half and had a few good chances to take the lead early on as Ben Brooks, Dean Griffiths, Jamie Lyons and man of the match Kyle Tooze all made their presence felt. The closest call for the home side was when their keeper had to scramble the ball to safety almost under Dean's feet. It took us 30 minutes of play to make the dominance count, though, and the goal finally came when Dean fired through the Bridgy defence and Ben got on the end of the shot to steer it home, helped by a slight deflection. Jamie then very nearly made it 2-0 immediately afterwards.

A 1-0 lead is not always enough and so it proved on this occasion. The Robins levelled within seconds of the restart through Reeko Best, and buoyed up by the equaliser, then took the game to the Larks who managed to hold firm to deny them for the remaining 44 minutes. The nearest we got to scoring a winner was a superb curling free kick from captain Jamie Lyons that bypassed the wall and missed the net only by inches.

On the balance of play a neutral would probably say that a draw was a fair result, although it was frustrating not to be able to exploit our first half advantage rather more.
