Youth Rugby Success
Letterkenny youths started the day with three wins from three over Malone RFC. These performances were not only good, but they were against one of the most successful clubs in Ulster. Malone has tradionally been a rugby powerhouse in Belfast and are highly organised with excellent facilities and structures. These results at all levels show how far the youth system in Letterkenny has progressed. All teams are improving hugely and are training and playing with skill and commitment. One very noticeable feature of all teams is the open style of play with all teams playing an open brand of rugby with scores coming from forwards and back alike.

2nd XV Victorious over league leaders Limavady
Limavady 22 Letterkenny 2nd XV 26
Conor Lawless lead his side to a superb victory over league leaders Limavady in thrilling match away in Limavady. This performance really sets the 2nd XV up for a great season and pushes them right into contention to win this league if they keep up the good work. All payers are encouraged to build on this and come training to ensure we continue this run of form and really kick on from here. Well done to all the 2nd XV players.
The one that got away!
Letterkenny 1st XV 22 Belfast HSFP 1st XV 28
Letterkenny started poorly and conceded an early try with some loose defensive play. They then recovered and started to apply huge pressure to BHSFP and scored two tries through excellent driving play and hard running through the centres. Michael Foy scored a brace of tries and Letterkenny went in at the interval leading 17 - 10. Unfortunately despite the intention to raise the tempo of the game further, the Belfast team hit back and scored a try under the posts through some excellent back play to level the game at 17 - 17 and the pressure was on. Letterkenny's scrum started to crack and we were suddenly losing our own scrum ball leading to several turn overs and more attacks form BHSFP. Another try resulted this time from a break through the centres which was unconverted putting the score at 17 - 22 and then soon followed up with a penalty and the game was starting to slip away. Letterkenny did rally with a superb try from Liam McGlynn (unconverted) to bring the margin back to 3 point but another penalty took BHSFP clear by 6 points and they held on til the end. This was a hard fought game between the two best teams in the league and on balance the Belfast team deserved their win for their ability to play for 80 minutes and come from behind in the second half. Letterkenny did respond and even to the last second could have stolen it. However it was not to be.
All players are encouraged to be positive and put this behind us. With a little effort we can improve from here and still be in a very good position come the end of the season.
Training Tuesday and Thursday 7pm sharp.
