The club have another 16 qualified first-aiders

The Oakley club made another step forward last week – with 16 more club members receiving emergency first-aid training. The group included players from Lt Oakley Walking Footballers, the club’s netballers and the club’s netball and fitness group – and all passed with flying colours to receive their first aid certificates.

The course was provided by Dovercourt-based TJ Training’s team of Tony and Dayle Johnson – who taught the group the actions and procedures to take in the event of sports injuries, CPR and use of the defibrillator. Organisation for the course was undertaken by walking footballer Andrew Fullarton who commented “Everything went very well, the group and the trainers struck up a light-hearted but still serious approach to the course and everyone benefitted form the experience. It is very reassuring to know that we have so many qualified people on hand in the event of emergency”.

Ironically the weekend after the event the club had two walking footballers involved in injuries which required hospital treatment and in both cases the first-aiders on site were able to carry out correct procedures and both injured players are now on the road to recovery.
