The young Blues never looked in trouble as the controlled the whole game from beginning to end. They came out of the blocks flying and Shea Curry opened the scoring after 5 minutes with an emphatic finish. The Blues could and should have raced clear only for some wasteful finishing and excellent goal keeping by the Coleraine keeper.
As the first half progressed Stephen Greer ran through but finished with a weak finish and his attempt was saved. Ryan Convery then headed onto the post before Padraig McGroggan curled a free-kick onto the crossbar.
It certainly looked as though the Blues would not get the second goal but it came when Curry was fouled inside the box. Liam Og McElhone stepped up, and even though the keeper got his hands to the shot, the power helped it cross the line.
The Blues contained Coleraine throughout the second half and Callum Smyth, captain on the night, was comfortable throughout the game as he collected anything that came his way.
Greer could have made it three but his shot went straight at the keeper. Ryan Kearns came on as a substitute and his free-kick curled just wide before he made space in the box and shot straight into the keepers arms.
This was certainly not a vintage Under 12 performance but when you take it they defeated the league winners, Institute, in the semi-final the game tonight was more about the result than the performance.
Congratulations must go to coaches Henry Greer, Denver Young and Liam McElhone for putting together a great young side who have certainly produced some excellent performances throughout the season.
Congratulations to the players themselves on the result tonight but also the effort and commitment they have demonstrated all season. This cup success is a great way to end the season.
One final thank you goes to the parents/guardians who travelled down on the night.
The future is bright the future is Sky Blue!!
