We are delighted to announce that Marlow and Borlase player Jack Turner was recently named the U16 UK Hockey Player of the Year for 2013

Jack, who started playing for Marlow aged 12, won the prestigious 'Higgins Junior Award for the 16 and under age group'. This award is made by 'The Hockey Writers' Club sponsored by Higgins Group Plc.

In summing up, the panel of judges were impressed with Jack's CV and by his approach to the game. In the past year he was a member of the Sir William Borlase's GS U18 Indoor Hockey team who were the first state school to become National Champions at U18 level. He also captained England throughout his second season playing for the U16s and now has 30 junior international caps.

The awards were presented at The Royal Yacht Club in Knightsbridge at the annual Hockey Writers' Club awards function last week. Unfortunately we don't have a picture of Jack receiving his award as he was ill with tonsillitis; so his dad Mark had to be the 'stand in'

Jack didn't say "I learnt a huge amount playing for the Chairman's 3rd team a few years ago and I wouldn't have made it without this introduction to senior hockey"

JT is another notable success on the MHC/SWB junior hockey conveyor beIt that currently has 50 boys and girls aged U13 - U18 in the England Hockey Single System at JAC level or above
