First League Fixture this Saturday

First League Fixture this Saturday

Pete Nuttall30 Apr 2012 - 13:14

Milton Keynes Wolves Rugby League will make their formal bow in the East Division on Saturday May 5th.

After months of preparation, numerous meetings, intense training sessions and countless Twitter and Facebook postings, MK Wolves Rugby League Club will play Bedford Tigers RL in our first formal fixture on Saturday May 5th at our home ground Emerson Valley Sports Pavilion.

Buoyed by a barnstorming performance in a warm-up match against Hemel Stags 2nd team last Wednesday evening, the Wolves will be confident of victory but will need to be wary of the wounded Tigers from Bedford.

Bedford were narrowly defeated by one of the other new teams in the league last Saturday, North Herfordshire Crusaders, and the Tigers will be looking to exact a swift retribution on the Wolves.

Player / Coach Scott Aspinall commented, "We need to have two high quality training sessions this Tuesday and Thursday with all those who have signed on with the club and any other players who want to give Rugby League a try. We have to build upon the mommentum of the game vs Hemel where we showed to the Hemel players and spectators that we are a quality Rugby League side. We will respect our opposition in the shape of the Tigers as they have a proud history behind them, but we're determined to prove we have nobody to fear in this division."

It will be a special day for Aspinall and a number of other Wolves players who played for the Tigers in recent seasons before their move to their hometown club. However, sentiment will play no part in their minds for the 80 minutes of the game with no quarter asked and none given.

The Wolves will be preparing for the game with two training sessions at Emerson Valley on Tuesday and Thursday night from 6.30pm.

Remember to spread the word across the city to potential players, spectators, volunteers and Rugby League enthusiasts as it will be a special day not just in our history, but for sport in Milton Keynes.
