Wayne was appointed Head Coach at the start of the year, and was heavily involved in our early-season preparations. He was looking forward to using his wealth of playing and coaching experience to help us build on last year's debut season.
Unfortunately, whilst playing for Hemel Stags in an early season game, Wayne suffered a serious back injury which will rule him out for a long period.
As a consequence, after much deliberation, Wayne has decided to move back to Northern Ireland with his family, and MK Wolves of course respect his decision. As a club, we would like to thank him for his help in planning for this season, and wish him a speedy recovery.
In Wayne's absence, MK Wolves are delighted to have appointed Abe Kerr to the role of First Team Head Coach and Club Performance Manager.
Abe was originally brought in to lead our early fitness training through his company TriLine Fitness, who run fitness sessions for groups and individuals using specific professional rugby training techniques.
Abe is a very experienced Rugby League coach and player, formerly with Manchester Metropolitan University, Bedford Tigers, Hemel Stags, London Skolars, Eccles and England Students.
As well as running Triline Fitness, Abe also operates a rugby player management agency, Triline Sports. Given his extensive contacts within the game, Abe sees a clear pathway for developing talent within the club and in the cases of players with exceptional potential, assisting them with a move in to the professional game.
Abe said, "With semi-professional clubs such as London Skolars, Oxford and Hemel Stags already competing in Championship One and London Broncos in the Super League, the South East of England is genuinely providing a pathway for talented players to reach their full potential.
"However, because only a few elite players can become professionals, the focus of the club is for everyone involved to be as committed as time allows to all the vital roles involved in running a successful club - such as playing, coaching, managing and administration - and for us to be as welcoming and inclusive to all as possible. Enjoyment must be at the heart of MK Wolves RLFC so please get involved!"
This Wednesday, Abe will be running our final pre-season training session before our first match this weekend - it's vital everyone attends. Come and join us at Emerson Valley on Wednesday at 7pm.
Let's make 2013 the Year of The Wolf!
