National Plate Competition
Caernarfon Ladies 34 – Tylorstown Ladies 5

Caernarfon ladies travelled to Llanidloes for the semi final of the National Plate competition and faced a tough tie against Tylorstown a valleys side who are always ready for a hard battle.

With perfect conditions at the start Caernarfon's pace was always going to present Tylorstown with problems and after 4 minutes on the clock Becky Williams crossed after numerous forward surges.

Before Tylostown could settle into any pattern, sniping runs by scrum half Olwen Jones led to centre Sara Patchett crossing for a fine score in the corner. Caernarfon's tack ticks of throwing the ball wide paid dividends for nifty winger Manon Williams to score under the posts with Sera Bailey adding the extra points.

Tylostown kept the ball tight and this eventually led to Caernarfon's defence being stretched which gave Tylostown their only score of the match. The respite was short lived however when full back Felicity Brown surged through to score an excellent try to give Caernarfon a half time lead of 22-5.

With the weather conditions deteriorating Tylostown reverted to constant forward power which paid no dividends for within ten minutes Manon Williams danced her way through a tiring defence to score under the posts and with Sera Bailey’s conversion Caernarfon Ladies were comfortable with their lead.

A tiring Tylorstown became limited as an attacking force and they became disheartened as Caernarfon became stronger and their backs took every opportunity to split the defence.

The classic example was Felicity Brown's 70 metre run to split the post and put the game out of Tylorstown reach. The Champagne did not last long at the end of the match!

Caernarfon Ladies and coaching staff would like to CR Llanidloes RFC for their recourses and hospitality.

The Cofis now take on Seven Sisters another valleys side at Cross Keys with the date to be confirmed. All support will be appreciated. Contact Clwb Rygbi Caernarfon for more details: www.clwbrygbicaernarfon.co.uk
