The tournament was a very close affair where the majority of games could have gone either way. Otliensians turned up with a very youthful bunch as well some of their older heads and deservedly took the title from Ossett with some fine attacking play.
From Ossett's perspective I was pleased with the progress made through the tournament. When we were physical in the tackle we were able to build momentum through the phases. This was evident in our first try when Neil Gothard hit the line at pace and was able to offload to Cowie who put in Adam for a try under the posts.
Jack Drury scored a well taken try as well as Matt Dey. Dan Wray powered over from a scrum for the 4th try.
Other positives were the set piece where the lineout looked promising and the scrum as rock solid as ever with Neil and Dan D, Rich and Dave giving us good go forward.
Some good individual performances from Dan Wray who looked dangerous in space and will keep getting better. Kyle Taylor made his debut and is a real assett if he sticks with it.
We will have to improve before the Wetherby game but as a first run out I thought it was ok. Lots still to work on so lets get down this week to training.
On behalf of the club I would like to make a few thank yous. To all the sponsors who donated money and prizes. Thanks to all the teams who made it such a tight contest. The three referees who were excellent and controlled all the games very well. Alex and Jez for organising sponsors day and all those who helped them meeting and greeting and looking after our sponsors. The North family for selling the refreshments. Chairman Moz, Sammy G and Braddy for sorting the food out. Richard lister for a great deal of work producing our excellent brochure. Jez Broadhead for all his work organising the event and the raffle/prizes. Butty for getting a Silcoatians side together. Holty, Dick, Rob and Jack for meeting and greeting teams. Clinton for helping set up and making amends for the huge kit he bought 2 years ago by buying the best kit we have had (one that fits!!). Rob Young for his help organising the event over past month or so. Im sure I have probably missed someone out - please let me know if I have. It was a club effort so thanks to anyone who played a role small or large.
