Ossett Albion 1 - 3 Scarborough Athletic

geoff pyke12 Nov 2013 - 22:34

The score-line in no way reflects the game and Albion were very unlucky not to finish on level terms and go into a penalty shoot-out.

Scarborough started the better of the 2 sides and put early pressure on the Albion defence which coped well. Gradually Albion began to get back into the game and they put together some good moves of their own.
In one Scarborough attack a cross came in from their right and was handled by Sam O'Neill in the box to give the visitors a penalty. The spot-kick was struck firmly enough by the Scarborough player but it crashed against the cross-bar and was cleared.
This seemed to give Albion belief and they began to attack with more conviction. A good run down the left and a cross to the near post was met by Ben Jones with his head and he flashed it into the net to give Albion the lead.
Unfortunately they were not able to hold onto this lead for long. The visitors began to attack and within 2 minutes they had struck back to put themselves back on level terms. It was another run down their right which caused the problem and a hard, low ball into the area was put into the Albion net by Ryan Blott.
Albion came out for the second half and began to play some good football which troubled the Scarborough defence at times. Adam Muller, Ryan Harrison and Darol Lucas were full of running and the defence were coping well with the Sccarborough attacks. Unfortunately the final ball was still missing for Albion to enable them to reclaim the lead.
Scarborough could still be dangerous on the break and the more Albion pressed for a winner, the more they left themselves exposed to the counter-attack.
Just when everyone was anticipating a penalty shoot-out to decide things, Albion were caught out by a quick Scarborough break down their left which allowed them to take the lead. Then just to rub salt into the wound they repeated it as Albion looked for an equaliser. This left a final score that made the victory seem much more comfortable for the visitors than it actually was.
This was a much better performance from the Albion team which showed several changes from previous matches. Hopefully they can carry this form into their forth-coming League matches to give some much-needed confidence to the team.
