Peckham Town today welcomed the league leaders Bromleians to an unseasonably hot and sunny Menace Arena for a fascinating clash.
Town started brightly and made much of the running in the first half and made some lovely moves in the final third. The Menace hit the post and bar, and deservedly took the lead through Howard Miller after some suspect defending by Bromleians as they attempted to deal with a high ball in the box.
Peckham looked largely unflustered by their opponents before half time and could easily have led by more. The break, however, appeared to have served Bromleians better, who came out with more attacking threat in the second half.
Peckham struggled to keep the ball for any sustained period over the second 45 mins but were resilient and organised in defence. Bromleians went close a couple of times late on with headers that were well saved, but in truth would have been lucky to get something from the game.
Back to back wins in successive weekends at the Menace Arena will give Peckham plenty of encouragement - particularly the excellent football they have played in patches in both games - as they head into October’s fixtures. Next up for Town are Tudor Sports on Saturday 6 October at the Menace Arena with a 2.45pm kick off.
