The Barum Janner Cup will be competed for every time the Raiders and Titans meet in regular season competition beginning with the South Western League round one clash between the clubs at Pottington Road on Saturday May 12th.
The Raiders will be regarded as the holders going into this inaugural clash due to their victory in the final game of last season meaning that Plymouth must win to take the trophy with a draw or Raiders win resulting in the silverware staying in Barnstaple.
The Barum Janner Cup has been inaugurated by Keith Fillingham who formed both clubs, the Raiders in 2009 and Plymouth way back in 1985.
"Hopefully, the Barum Janner Cup will add a bit of extra spice to the clashes between the two clubs I have been associated with in 27 of Rugby League. Obviously, I wish still wish the Titans well but my Blue and Yellow colours are nailed firmly to the Raiders mast! I hope we win the opening encounter next month and retain the cup on our visit to Plymouth in August.". commented Fillingham.
The name of the Cup is a combination of the nicknames for inhabitants of the two competing places - Barum from the Roman name for Barnstaple and Janner, the nickname for Plymothians.
