The most testing time for any club or player is when interest drops and defeats mount up. Wondering where that next triumph is coming from, praying that we can be pulled from the scrapheap and recycled again.
There may come a time when our grand pitches at Hornby park are turned into football pitches or worse cricket. When talk of egg chasing in the club is a distant memory, when our pictures have faded into that distant memory of someone's garage.
But it was not this day, this day 14 warrior's put on their shirts and loaded their balls into wheelbarrows. They took to a sodden field outnumbered and perhaps outmatched, with grins from ear to ear and said to their opponents, come on then.

Every single man who put that shirt on and went into battle today proved themselves worthy of heroic recognition. Their hearts beating strong and their balls huge and made of steel.
And at the end when all was said and done, each one of them wiped clean their faces and revealed smiles worthy of their efforts.
