Pre match talk amongst the Shepshed supporters was that a draw would be a good result after losing fairly comfortable by a 4-1 margin at Sutton Coldfield Town earlier in the season, whereas after the match there was a sense of disappointment that they had only got a point.

Shepshed made only one change from the midweek team, bringing in Jacob Sturgess for his starting debut in place of Adam Burton who dropped down to the bench.

The game got away to a cracking start. Well, at least from the visitor’s point of view, as they went ahead with a third minute goal. Craig Marshall gained possession out on the left flank and from 35 yards let fly with a shot that looked to be going wide until it caught on the strong wind and curled into top corner of the net leaving Sam Andrew somewhat of a bystander.

A few minutes later Shepshed almost equalized when a long ball through the defence was seized upon by Steve Chaplin who looked to have shaken off a challenge by keeper Nial Cooper and was poised to score. Cooper however just managed to collect at the second attempt.

On 15 minutes a similar move saw Lee Weemes judge a through ball to perfection as he strode through the Town defence to shoot past the advancing Cooper.

At the other end Marshall might have regained the lead for the visitors when he left an off balance Sturgess for dead and raced on to shoot straight at Andrew at his near post.
On 33 minutes it was Shepshed who took the lead. After good work down the right the ball was crossed to the back of the penalty area where it found Luke Smith who, some ten yards out, somehow managed to brilliantly hook his shot back across the face of the goal and keeper into the net.

Half time came with Shepshed well on top and the feeling at the break was that the Dynamo could go on to add a couple to the scoreline. However it wasn’t to be. For much of the second half Shepshed seemed content to play very deep. Weemes and Chaplin were left to plough a lonely furrow up front being fed with only long balls out of defence, and a lot of those, with the strong wind behind them, were being over hit.

Shepshed paid the penalty – literally – on the hour mark, after Zeke Jenkins was controversially adjudged to have fouled Matt Dodd just inside the penalty area. The resulting spot-kick was clinically dispatched into the back of the net by Marshall.

Thereafter the game lacked excitement as both teams seemed to settle for the point they had got. The Town came closest to scoring when with six minutes left substitute Craig Bannister headed against the crossbar. Shepshed tried to raise their game in the dying minutes hoping for an injury time goal – a frequent occurrence recently – but it wasn’t to be.
