HEROES RETURN TO BOOST SKELMERSDALE
By Neil Leatherbarrow
Skelmersdale United manager Tommy Lawson strengthened his side with two signings last night, capturing the signature of not one but two heroes who had graced the Skelmersdale team before moving on to bigger things. George Donnelly and Chris Almond both will give a sharp edge to the Skelmersdale attack.
George was sold to Plymouth Argyle in 2009 after scoring 36 goals in 47 games for Skem. He later played for Luton, Fleetwood, Macclesfield, Rochdale, Tranmere and Southport. A powerful centre-forward he has scored goals everywhere he has been.
Chris is a quick, tricky wide player, who can do a grand job at centre-forward himself. Chris was initially taken to Southport by Liam Watson and he became the regular forward in the Sandgrounders team. Eventually he moved on to Chorley, where he helped the Magpies lift the Evo-Stik Premier Division title and later was a member of the side that almost reached the National Division last season. Chris actually returns to Skelmersdale United on his birthday.
Tommy Lawson knows exactly what he is getting from both players and it is known he has been after both players for some time.
