This Saturday sees a departure from the usual ieague or County Cup fixtures as we travel out of county to take on Coney Hill in the South West Counties Final of the National Intermediate Cup. The competition involves level 7 clubs from across the UK so it should be a game between sides of a comparable standard.

The two sides last played each other in South West 1 at Metz Way on Saturday 5th April 2014 when Saints narrowly lost by 22 – 17. Earlier in the season on 5th December 2013 the Saints had run out victors by 79 – 13. I have no doubt that our visit will be as challenging as the last meeting and it promises to be a wonderful game.
Cup competitions can sometimes throw up mismatches but this looks like a really well set up game. With Coney Hill sitting on top of Western Counties North boasting a played 20, won 15 , drawn 1, lost 4 record. Saints meanwhile are in second place in Western Counties West with a played 20, won 16 lost 4 record.
While Coney Hill have amassed 795 points so far this season with 17 try bonus points, Saints have only conceded 265, some 38 less than the nearest team in their league. It doesn't matter which way you slice and dice this one, it has all the makings of a titanic struggle.
Cornwall and Gloucestershire are both passionate hotbeds of rugby and there have been some great match-ups over the years. With both sides pushing hard for promotion they enter this fixture playing near the top of their respective games. It's all set up for a wonderful spectacle and it should be a great advert for rugby!
The winner not only progresses to the South West Divisional Final but also receives a trophy to be presented by the Vice-President of Gloucestershire Rugby.
Kick-off is at 2:00 and with a winner needed on the day so extra time will be played if necessary. It's great to be involved in another big game and the whole club is looking forward to this one .... COYS !!!!

The bus will get to Coney Hill RFC about 1200-1230. Watch the Saints play then depart for home at no later than 6pm. Contact Al Cummins on 079022 16417 or via alancummins@live.co.uk to secure a seat.
