Here is an update of all the great work being done by our representatives in the local schools.
This week saw 70 P5 children attend a touch rugby festival at Inchmacoble organised by SRU development officer Stewart Ross and Sharks SVQ Duncan Hampton. I was lucky enough to be able to help out at the event and see at first hand the great work being done. With the emphasis on fun and fair play, teams from all the Forfar primary schools played each other in a round robin tournament. One of the Langlands teams eventually pipped a Whitehills side to lift the Strathmore Sharks P5 Fairplay trophy, which the club donated. All participating children were given one of the new Sharks fliers and an invite to a fun training session this Sunday, which will be organised by Duncan.
Stephen Greenhill is continuing his impressive work at Forfar Academy and Websters High. There are now 29 boys training in his after school sessions at the two schools. (3 from S3, 12 from S2 and 14 from S1). Although this work is in it's infancy, the Sharks have gained two new players from these sessions already, with more considering joining. He has also taken teams to a schools tournament in Montrose, where we were able to field two full teams from the Strathmore area, one of which won all there matches.
As you can see, there is a lot of good work going on to promote the club and to develop the game of rugby in the local area. We believe by wholeheartedly supporting these projects it will stand the club in good stead for years to come.
