Wake on target to take Bridge to victory

Uxbridge returned to Floodlit Cup action on the same pitch they were narrowly beaten on against Ealing 1871 last time out against regular local foes Ruislip for a place in the final.

The game began quickly with Ruislip making in roads with their heavy forwards and mobile half backs, with Bridge losing tighthead Adam Dender to the sinbin early on for a superb but foul tackle to make the next 10 mins harder for the visitors.

Ruislip managed to open their account from the tee and Bridge quickly struck back through the boot of Elliot Wake with a couple of penalties and even a drop goal after good in roads were made by the forwards up front and out wide as the ball was worked across the backline.

Wake then also added a try of his own after barging his way over the line from close proximity.

This whirred Ruislip into action and a string run from their half backs allowed them to scorch from their own 10-metre line and dot down.

The period of pressure continued as Bridge doggedly held on in defence before finally managing to clear their lines.

Bridge went into the half 16-13 but with confidence still high and a slight slop to work with came out for the second half and quickly found themselves a further try behind as Ruislip worked the left flank to score under the posts.

Down but not defeated bridge rallied and managed to make some yards through Ben Owen, Dan Evans, Niall Mcloughlin, Simon Olliffe and Simon Coldwell eventually being rewarded with penalties that Wake dispatched away.

After a strong kick chase from Bridge, the second try eventually came after camping out on the Ruislip five metre line eventually saw the ball worked wide to Olliffe to score in space in the corner.

Ruislip likewise weren’t done and continued to make dangerous forays into the Bridge half to only be met with stern resistance and it was after turning one of these attacks around at the death did Bridge land the final blow through Wake’s penalty to take the final score to 32-23.

Bridge advance to the final on 19th April against Old Priorians at Ealing Trailfinders RFC (K.O. TBC) but return to league action on Saturday 26 March at home to Watford.
