As Westhoughton 1st XI look to build for the 2013 season, the club is excited to confirm that the Pakistani born Qaiser Abbas will be joining the club.
Qaiser is a left handed batsmen who has been a prolific run scorer for his current side, Todmorden in the Lancashire League, scoring 981 runs last season at an average of 61.31 and has followed that up by reaching 853 runs so far this season with an average of 47.38. Qaiser is not just a batter though, he bowls slow left arm orthodox spin. He took 114 wickets in all competitions during the 2011 season at 12.03 runs per wicket, and has been in similar form this season reaching 89 wickets so far at 12.14 runs per wicket.
It is not just his recent form that caught the eye of clubs all over the country as he showed his quality for a number of sides through the mid 2000s, perhaps most impressively scoring 3785 runs in three seasons for Kynpersley Cricket Club between 2004 and 2006. He also took 120 wickets during his time there.
Qaiser plays his club cricket in Pakistan for the National Bank of Pakistan, and has done for the majority of his career. He has had success back in Pakistan as well, success that saw him play test cricket for the national side back in 2000.

Atiq has also extended his coaching deal for another two seasons with Westhoughton Cricket Club.
We welcome both players with open arms and look forward to seeing them in action during the 2013 season!
