Looking back is not always a measure of success going forward: this is particularly true if the Wolves haven't played the team since 1937-38 (Bolton) or even further back in our first ever season, after re-starting in 1923-24 (Eccles). I am sure when Eccles & Bolton visit the Memorial ground in February & March, respectively, we will give them a fine welcome.

However, since we are also playing some more familiar faces too, results may indicate the challenges for the season. Below are the results of our games against this years league opposition. As you can see some teams and the Wolves have a long history (Broughton Park - first recorded game was 1897)

Whilst it is always interesting to review summary results there is another interesting question: how have we performed against today's opposition, New Brighton (see below). The book-ends of performance are: the most impressive performance was under Mike Clifford in 2010-11 season (57-25 victory); the biggest challenge was in 1962-63 season, an away loss of 46-3. It must be noted that T.C. Garners team had recorded a 3-3 draw at home that season, so the Wolves challenges away from home have existed for some time!!! A tradition which may be one difficult to break, given our many visits to Cumbria this season. If any squad can break this tradition Mike Blacks team can, they are a motivated set of players who are willing to work hard for each other.
