Only needing 6 points to confirm back to back promotions, the selection mitty had the choice of the whole club with the 2s winning via a concede by Hampole. But following last weeks decisive victory the same XI was selected for the visit to Sheff Uni Staff.

A lush and long looking outfield and a dry and crumbling wicket posed a few questions for the winner of the toss, surprisingly with only 9 men the host elected to field first. Wilko and Rinse struggle on a slow track against some slow bowling, although a couple of well timed shots where played, hitting boundaries seem difficult due to the outfield. Wilko (4) got one that stuck on the track and was caught by the bowler. Rinse (15) was getting frustrated and ran down the track and yorked himself, Mainers 2 down for not too many. Big Jon (15) was 3rd to go with the score on 42. The ‘sat nav’ boys came together and dug in and showed some character and true Wombwell grit. The score board started to tick with by Toms clearing the ropes and putting on a match winning partnership. The 4th finally fell when Pecki (41) was cleaned up having put on 98 with Westi. Westi had passed another fiddy but was next to go for a well constructed 74. The skipper joined GDad at the crease with the first target been 175, hitting boundaries was still a tow and the score ticked along in 1s, 2s and even some 3s. The skipper (8) was next to go with 4 overs remaining young Armo was in at 8 with the new target of 200 now in reach. GDad cleared the ropes and Armo smashed a couple of 4s, but the majority of the runs again came in 1s & 2s. 200 was reached with an over to go with both batters wanting to still be in at the end. 208-6 after their 46 overs Linney 24* and Armo 23*.

Reevo and Pecki opened up and it wasn’t long before Pecki got in on the act with 2 quick wickets, Reevo then joined in with a smart c&b and added another 2 scalps, leaving the Uni Staff wobbling 5 down for not many. Wilko and Armo came on and polished off the tail like they always do with Armo taking the final wicket neatly caught behind by the Chocolate Cake loving Mr Pettigrew. Celebrations ensued having claimed back to back promotions with 2 games to go. Now for the title against local rivals Darfield next week at the COD.
